John Kenny, born in Machester in 1975, has spent the last decade travelling to some of the remotest corners of sub-Saharan Africa and India to highlight the pivotal role that traditional communities play in places where the earth’s resources are minimal and under growing threat. His striking portraits emphasize beauty and inherent strength as well as giving us insight into traditional dress and adornment. He travels with a blackout tent and a translator/guide, and creates connections with the souls in his photos, which emerge from the blackout tent and are lit by the sun.
His work has been featured in numerous art fairs and publications, most recently in the Digital Section of Art Dubai 2022. One of his pieces was sold by Sotheby's and is now in the Getty family collection.
