Zawyeh Gallery

2015

Acrylic on Canvas

80 x 90 cm

The title of this work comes from a fertile plain, the site of many significant events in Palestinian history, which is divided by the separation wall. Part of it lies within the West Bank, surrounding the city of Jenin, but much of it is inaccessible to Palestinians living under military occupation because it extends into the Galilee, in present-day Israel. Also known as the Jezreel Valley or the Valley of Megiddo, this work is an abstract landscape focusing on the purity of nature rather than the human scars and conflict torn out upon it. It celebrates the land and its beauty, which also evokes a sense of loss because of the exile of so many Palestinians from their birth land.
