Acrylic on Canvas
89 x 127cm
From a 2020 body of work titled Tensegrity, this painting challenges authority. The minimalist geometric shapes are being colonised by an extra-terrestrial element: ants. Despite their size and their innocuous presence, Salameh is using the ants as a device to launch subtle criticism upon notions of occupation and colonial power, a commentary that directly stems from her Palestinian identity. The tiny ants, although resilient, also perhaps, indicate the powerlessness of the Palestinian struggle.
